A UNITY EARTH Annual Event

Peace Week is a unifying initiative that celebrates and amplifies the many voices and actions that are happening around the International Day of Peace on September 21st.

This event is co-convened by a growing community of international organizations, grassroots leaders and global networks.

This is a time of momentous action, as we come together to support each other’s efforts and share how we are collectively working to create the conditions for a global culture of lasting peace.

The International Day of Peace (IDP) was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1981 to promote peace and non-violence across the globe. Since its inception, the IDP has been celebrated worldwide in a variety of ways. Since 2001, the United Nations has designated September 21 as the official date for this event. Throughout the years, various celebrations have taken place in conjunction with the IDP, including Peace Week, Peace Weekend, and Peace Month.

Recently, starting with Peace Weekend in 2020 and 2021, followed by Peace Week in 2022, UNITY EARTH and many partners organizations have revived the idea of a longer celebration to coincide with the IDP. Due to the fact that September 21 can fall on different days of the week, Peace Week serves to unify many of the programs and initiatives that honor the IDP, whether they take place the weekend before on or or after September 21st.

Overall, the celebration of the IDP and its associated celebrations highlight the importance of promoting peace and non-violence, not just on one day but throughout the year. These celebrations serve as a reminder to all of us that we can work together to create a more peaceful world.

Presenters have included Deepak Chopra, Vandana Shiva, Zach Bush and hundreds of other global leaders in the fields of peace, ecology, spirituality and global transformation
